STILL MORE SHOWS!

I had the chance to squeeze in two shows last week.  I saw "Once Upon a Mattress" at Madison High School.  It was great to see such enthusiastic performances and a big house.  Colette has been working hard to build up the program over there.  I also saw "Honk!" at Mira Mesa High School.  It was a great production and another sold out performance!  Great work, folks!  Congratulations to all who were involved.

There are more shows to see!  Send your students to one of these:

FREE FURNITURE AND PROPS

Colette Thomas, at Madison High School, is losing one of her storage units.  Her loss is your gain!  She has lots of things you might find useful and is willing to give them to a good home.

CALIFORNIA YOUTH IN THEATRE DAY

Teri Ang and Patrick Garcia, from Valencia Park Magnet, and I took students up to Sacramento for this CETA event.  It was a blast!  We each took three students, met at the airport at o'dark thirty, and flew up on the first flight out of town.  We arrived in Sacramento, picked up the rental car and headed to the Sacramento Theatre Company where we dined on lovely breakfast snacks.  The students were thrilled to go on this adventure!  There were powerful speakers, acting workshops, an improv show and a tasty lunch.  Our students had the chance to perform for award-winning students and educators from across the state.  Valencia Park's scene was an adorable number from "Friday Knight Fever" and the other students did a scene from the Honor Theatre Production of "Stefanie Hero."  Both were very well received.

It was a gorgeous, Spring day in Sacramento, with all the flowers and trees in bloom.  We could not have asked for better weather!  We walked over to the capitol building where we met with Assembly Member Marty Block.  The students were very articulate in expressing the importance of theatre as part of their overall education experience.  They were great arts advocates!  Later in the day a staffer from Senator Christine Kehoe's office gave us a tour of the capitol building and we got to stand on the floor of the Senate room.  The senator met us there and gave us all very official-looking certificates and spent a half hour talking to the kids about theatre and schools.  Both Assembly Member Block and Senator Kehoe are greats arts and education supporters.

We walked to a nice dinner and flew back on a late plane.  It was an outstanding day!  I highly recommend taking students to this event.  Teri and I each applied for and received scholarships to attend this event.  Watch for it next year!
